If you’re going to be in Valladolid in October and you like wine, Yucatecan food, or events that feel a little different from the usual sightseeing circuit, La Vid y La Ceiba is worth knowing about.

The second edition of the festival is scheduled for Saturday, October 10, 2026 at Selva Maya, just outside Valladolid. The event describes itself as a _Vendimia Maya_ — a wine and gastronomy festival bringing Mexican wine together with Yucatan food and Maya cultural roots.

What is La Vid y La Ceiba?

This isn’t just a wine tasting dropped into Valladolid for the afternoon.

The organizers describe La Vid y La Ceiba as an enogastronomic festival that brings together two ideas: Mexican wine culture and Yucatan’s Maya heritage. The setting at Selva Maya gives it a very different feel from a hotel ballroom or a conventional food festival.

The official site calls it the world’s only _Vendimia Maya_. Expect the focus to be on wine, food and a more social festival atmosphere rather than a formal sit-down dinner.

Where is Selva Maya?

Selva Maya is on the federal road between Valladolid and Mérida at Km 3.5. That means it is outside the historic center and not somewhere I’d plan to walk to from the main plaza.

If you’re staying in Valladolid, I’d use a taxi or arrange transportation in advance. And because this is a wine-focused event, that makes even more sense if you plan to drink.

One important thing if you’re coming from Cancun

Valladolid and Cancun are in different time zones.

Valladolid is generally one hour behind Cancun. So the advertised 2:00 PM start in Valladolid corresponds to 3:00 PM on a Cancun clock.

It sounds simple, but this is one of those little details that can wreck a day trip if you forget it.

Would I make this a day trip from Cancun?

You can. I probably wouldn’t.

For a normal Valladolid day trip, driving back to Cancun after dinner is manageable. A wine festival changes that equation. If I were going specifically for La Vid y La Ceiba, I’d stay overnight in Valladolid, enjoy the event without watching the clock, then have breakfast in town the next morning.

That also gives you a chance to enjoy Valladolid after the day-trip crowds leave — which is when I think the city is at its best.

How early should you arrive?

The listed start is 2:00 PM. I’d aim to be at Selva Maya a little before that rather than arriving right at 2:00.

That gives you time to deal with transportation, ticket entry and finding your bearings without making the beginning of the festival feel rushed.

Is MX5 worth it?

That depends on what the final program includes and how much of the food and wine experience is included with admission.

As of September 15, TusBoletos lists general admission at MX5. I’d look at the official program before buying if your decision depends on specific wineries, restaurants or activities.

For me, the bigger appeal is that this is a Valladolid-specific event rather than something you can experience every weekend. If you already plan to be in the area, it could make for a very good Saturday.

My plan if I were going

I’d arrive in Valladolid before lunch, check into a hotel, have something light to eat, then take a taxi to Selva Maya before the 2:00 PM start.

After the festival, I’d head back into Valladolid rather than driving to Cancun. Dinner or a late walk through the center gives you a completely different version of the city from the midday tour-bus rush.

The next morning? Breakfast, one cenote early, and then head back toward the Caribbean.
